Not EXACTLY stock replacements. The Torquers have a 170cc intake runner volume. The stock TPI heads have something in the neighborhood of 160-163cc.

thier not just a stock replacement head.they have the same valve size as the stock 350 heads(1.94-1.50)they have a larger runner size than the stock vette heads(vette heads=166cc,WP heads=170cc)
i found a site where two guys dyoned a stock 305 TPI before and after the WP head swap and got a good 28 horse out of the heads.
i bought mine complete for well under $700
hmmm? 28 horse for less than $700?
i say that's a good deal!

I got my sportsman-II heads, with 2.02/1.60 valves, 200cc intake runners, and 72cc chambers for 350.00 each fully assembled. The same price you paid for your stock replacement version.

The difference from 163cc to 200cc is a LOT
different than 166cc to 170cc. So why on earth would you opt for the s/r when the price different is usually the same, or within 100.00 pending vendor.

Back to the actual question.

You'll loose torque but very little.

More revs, and more HP on the plate for ya tho.

You will NOT loose any torque!

In fact if your engine is anything like the one tested in camaro performers you'd make around 270hp and 330ft/lbs. With stock heads the engine produced 215hp and 275ft/lbs. These results came from a LB9 on a dyno. Note that the heads in the test had "bowls blended at world"...or some mild porting

He is asking about the Torquer 305's. They come with 1.94/1.50 valves unlike their big brothers. They are much better than a stock replacement

peace

Not that this is the scenario for ALL 305 engines but for '86 Iroc Z, I would NOT recommend SportsmanII heads. The 67 cc heads would give up compression to the 58 cc heads of the 305 Torquers. Also, with a 200 cc intake runner volume, driveability would suffer somewhat due to a decreased airflow velocity. Think about this: 170 cc Vortecs are EASILY adequate for many rodders in this room that own 350's. What sense does it make to go to a larger port volume with the stock cam and partially stock induction...ie no blower, turbo, mini ram, super ram, etc. on a 305? A larger cam or a blower might let the Sportsman heads come to life on a 305, but not on THIS engine.

Car: Damn
Engine: This
Transmission: New Stuff
You'll need to watch out for valve clearance with some heads designed for a 350 used on a 305. The valves are spaced further apart, and are usually bigger, and may not clear the deck of a 305, and if they do, they will most likely be nice and shrouded.
I agree that the sportsman heads with 200cc runners are too much. You'll lose alot of low end with them and won't get into the rpm where they really shine.
You'd be doing better with the SR 305 heads, they are designed for the 305. Also look into a set of the aluminum L98 heads off of vettes. They make great heads for a 305. They retain the 58cc chamber size, and have worked well for many.

White '88 RS (originally 2.8)
Previous engine-350, .040 over, vette alum. L98s, stock tpi, stock 305 injectors & chip. TES headers & edelbrock cat back. 3.73 gears, 700r4.
Best with 2.8-17.4@77mph
Best with 305-15.0@93mph
Best with 357-13.7@101mph
on a 2.050 60 ft.
(Damn the 2.8!)
New Setup:
4 bolt 357 (10.2:1), AFR 190s (fully cnc ported), LT4 Hot cam (1.6 RRs), Ported SuperRam (upper&lower), Ed Wright custom chip, 24# Accel injectors, Yank 3200 lock-up TC, 3.27 9 bolt rear, some traction! Hoping to see some 12s.

he's talking about the 305 torquer heads. the sportsman with 2.02 valves won't work because the valve hits the cylinder walls. but a mag used them on a 305 and had the cylinders notched for clearance.

There is a nice article in Camaro Performers
summer 2001 display until 8/27/01 edition.
In the article they say to use the 305 TORQUER and not the sr torquer. They show gains of 48 to 51hp and 62 peak torque. It is a 4 page article complete with pictures. The phone number for the back issues dept is 714-939-2400

Hope this helps
Ronald

I read a flow comparsion test in CHP and they came to the conclusion that the world products heads are not much of an improvement over stock. I think they sell for around 700-800 at Summit. You could get a wolrd of difference by spending an additionoal 200 bucks and get the 23 deg Trickflow heads. And if you want, i have a connection to get some AFR's for about 1300. I would go with the trickflows since they are the best value and it soulnds likeyou are trying to keep the cost down.
