GM 350 H.O. Crate Motor Transplant Questions

Has anyone installed a GM 350 HO crate motor in their third gen? It's not the ZZ4, it pushes 320 HP and 380 ft/lbs. of torque. GM lists it for $2095 and does not come with the intake manifold, carb, distributor, or waterpump.

What do you guys think of this deal? I want to bolt on my TPI with the Vortec intake base. Do you guys see any problems with this setup?

I was just reading more info about it and it says the motor uses straight plug heads. Will this cause problems in the GTA with SLP headers?

Plus are all the provisions there that I need to easily transfer all the TPI and other sensors etc. onto this crate motor or will I need to modify things?

My buddy runs the pre-vortec version of that engine with a TPI is his '77 Camaro with pretty good results. I am have the vortec heads, SDPC base, and slp 1 3/4 headers, everything seems to line up fine. The stock vortecs are only good to about 480 lift, so if you ever plan on changing out the cam, you will need new springs. It is a really nice basic perfromance engine and should pretty much drop right in.

I have the older version of it, too. It was the CC350 rated at 300hp. It's been a great base for my build-up. I pretty much used it as a short-block, ditching the heads right away.

I helped put one of those in a 87 monte ss. It ran great with a 600 eledbrock and headers. You need a posi rear for this motor, it will spin through 3rd gear for 400-600 feet with ease one legger.

The cam is a little small cuz those are stock Vortec heads, but its a nice engine. Remember that 330 HP rating is a dyno rating, not a street rating. The street rating is probably 275 HP or so.
