305tpi to 355 tpi what can i still use?and other questions..

ok my 305 is beat, and its time for a new motor, i am going to build a 355 roller cam one peice seal block, and do a descent rebuild on it, heres what want to know..

can i use my flywheel?

can i run it with the current computer chip? and if i can would it be a good idea to put on some 22lb injectors?

or would the 19lb injectors be ok if i cranked up the fuel pressure?

what else do i have to change to make this work?

Im trying to minimize the cost because eventually the 406 will go in, but not until i get DFI and asuper ram or a mini ram and a 6 speed.

Flywheel, starter, etc. will work. I'm pretty sure if it's a mild 355, you can use 19# injectors.

19lbs should work. WHen I crank my 22lbs up to like 55PSI my car almost died it got so rich.. And I have big heads.

yes it will be a mild 355 so i guess the 19lb`s will work, sweet!

will the computer be content with the new motor? I plan on getting into prom burning, but i just want to be able to drive this thing to work and stuff, so can i use the stock chip temporarily?

also are the 305 and 350knock sensor the same?

Hey man,

Well realisticly the spark curve, and injector pulses won't be in performance favor, but the car will run just fine.

I can't remember what the computer adjusts your timing to, but you can prolly advance the base on the dist to like 10` or so.

Eventually you (and I) should burn new proms cuz you're gonna wanna test the car out on a dyno.

As far as the fuel pulse, that should matter very minimally on a non SPFI car.

Accel makes a nice timing advance computer, that you (or I) can wire to play with spark curve. Its suposedly a "race only" box, but I imagine it wouldn't be a big deal to rig up a quick connect plug for track use.

My freind dropped a 350 300 horse motor in his 305TPI car and it ran fine with all the stock 305 stuff, but boy did it wake up when a good tuned chip was added, yeah I would bump FP up to 46 + and advance the base timing a tad.

you can also use the rods from the 305 they are sometimes equiped with gm X rods that are stronger than normal rods. Look on the side of the rods and if they have and X on them use them they should be good for about 375-400 hp if checked and magnafluxed by a compitent machine shop.
