Another carb conversion intake option for TPI guys
This is my intake setup. It consists of:
-Accel Pro Ram base
-Presciosn Turbo 110 degree cast elbow
-90 mm accufab mustang TB
To run this I need to convert to Mustang TPS and I had to buy a housing that bolts to the TB for GM IAC, i will also have to come up with some kind of throttle cable setup

Looks pretty good. That elbow looks like it would flow better than Accels elbow. Accels 90 degree bend looks kinda abrupt, where as yours transitions smoothly.
How's the hood clearance? Do you have to use a cowl hood? Also is it pretty easy to adapt the Ford TPS to GM electronics?

You need a cowl hood to clear it.
I havent done the TPS yet but it should not be tough. The ford one is 3 wire so it should only be a matter of getting the correct weather pack connectors to make an adapter harness.

Is there anyway that you are going to use the cowl hood for the induction? or are you just going to use the cowl for the clearance?

Im using it for clearance, weight savings, and good looks.
Im putting a large single turbocharger on my car this winter so thats the induction.

Pro Ram: #74139 with fuel rails $400 from jegs
Elbow: $180 from Precision Turbo www.precisionte.com
TB was $210 from Pro Mustang www.promustang.com
the IAC adapter was $57 from precision turbo.
I still need to figure out what Im going to do about the throttle cable. Im going to need something custom I think.

Its called a motor plate. What it does is replaces the motor mounts. There are a couple ways of doing this.
-Weld angle to the frame and drill holes through it and the plate to hold the plate.
-use rollcage bars through firewall to hold the plate in place with tabs welded onto the bars and bolt through
It clears up space under the engine for headers.

Haters!
It was sort of a split decision. Either
1.) upgrade to a cog pulley setup and have s-trim rebuilt with heavy duty bearings or spend $2600 on a t-trim compressor
2.) build the turbo system with a LOT more potential, no damn slipping belt, and not a lot of difference in money
i went with 2. of course. I am hoping to be running 9.80's this year.

nice!
that efi setup is very nicely done. i'm considering going along those lines myself. I was gonna go with vortec heads and miniram, but i might be going with different heads, and that rules out ramjet. So i've been considering carb-style. And it's certainly affordable. Keep me posted on the throttle cable issues. I don't think it should be too horrible to rig something simple up.
hey that looks bitchin, are there any other alternatives to the standard TPI set ups , i'm really not into spending $800 for an intake and runners to make an extra 30 HP. i'd rather spend $500 on a nitrous kit and get 150 HP, or go another route like you. what kind of mods are needed to put a set up like that on an 86 TA (computer related) ? do you have to use a stand alone computer and harness? and what do the emissions guys say about that setup? sorry so many questions, i'm still new to the tpi thing.
Grendle does has some very good points! I want to install the same type of setup on my tpi 383. Right now the stock intake only allows me to run my motor up to 4300rpm! Please let us know about the throttle cable & 700r4 cable, wouldnt want to burn the tranny up with a sloppy cable install. Does the stock electronics work with this install?

I imagine the stock ECM would work. Youd probably want some kind of custom PROM burnt to support the shifted powerband.
Im not using a 700R4 so no cable to route. Using a TH400.
Im going to need a cowl hood. Im not so sure that a smaller one is going to work either.

there's no reason why the stock ecm wouldn't work. same animal, just a different approach, but definitely a custom chip.
That thing is tall! out of curiousity guido, why did you decide on that elbow and tb? After doing a little homework, i'm gonna use the same intake as you, but with the accel elbow and a twin 58mm tb. Gotta figure that would give back some hood clearance, and it helps a lot in the cable routing/wiring department, because it's a stock style TB.
For a cowl hood that gives you some serious room to work, there's always the vfn fiberglass hood that the meanyellow z had. like a 6" cowl and it looked pretty good too.

you better plan to go faster than that if you want to keep up with my buddy next year when he gets done with his motor, he plans on flyn' past and LANDN' on your turbo crap with his nitrous motor

COME GET SOME
sounds cool, humm.......
i think for now though i'm going to see just how far i can push the stock tpi set up with porting and some other tricks. but i refuse to shell out $1000 + for a stock intake setup. i can build a new motor for that . i'll go carb first
