What does your ZZ4 motor run in a 1/4?

Just wondering. Mine turns a 13.54 @102.8 w/ a 1.93 60'. My mods are in the sig. I want 12's on motor. Do you think a Mini Ram and 1.6RR alone can do this.

------------------
Mods: ZZ4 engine w/stock TPI, adj, fuel pres. reg., MSD 8.5, HI6S ign. w/ PS-91 coil, K&N filter, TPI air foil, Hooker comp. shorties, American Thunder flows. 160* stat., TB bypass, 3"cowl, bat. relocate, AC delete, smog delet, cats gutted, stock T-5 w/ 3.42 rear, ported plenum, 24# inj., dual friction centerforce.

A friend with an 88 IROC with a ZZ4, and miniram ran 13.20's at 109 mph with the intake being the only change. Probably would have picked up 1 or 2 mph with 1.6 RR's.

A miniram and convertor will get you there.

I have a 12.9 w/stock unported tpi and 3.73 gears

Note: If I don't say it, then most likely, tpi_roc will because I proved him wrong in that the 3.73 from 2.73 gears helped my 1/4 a LOT. The 12.9 was acheived on a G-Tech, however, I ran a 13.4 at the track with tire spin, no launch, 2.73 gears and before a few other mods. To hit the 12.9 on the G-Tech, I launched perfectly w/no spin and had the 3.73 gears etc. So in short, it is possible for 12's w/stock tpi. I also have no a/c, fiberglass hood etc. and I am running at sea level.

Well, I guess if I wanted to stay in the 13's, then you are right! I should have "boughten" 3.42's

Wouldn't have posted if you didn't mention my name

only responding.. what do you expect.

If you want to be childish, do it in your car at 150mph around as many light poles as you can find. Otherwise shut up and make your posts.

I apologize too Freebird. Let me try and offer some advice to you for your next mod(s). I wouldn't go w/a miniram just yet unless you are planning on a bigger stall/lower gears/bigger cam. If I were you, I would get a quality stall - vigilante promises about 4-6 tenths off your et (that is if you have an auto of course!) from switching out the stock unit. I think the 1.6's would be nice as well. Let us know what you do.

I also apologize to tpi_roc - I don't really know what I did to make you get on my tail, and I just figured you would "correct" me sooner or later as you have before. Thanks for your help previously - I still don't get why YOU are calling ME childish? Anyway, truce, k?

Freebird - I would suggest that you at least change your base manifold. It has been proven on a dyno to gain 20hp. If it's in your budget, go with AS&M long tube runners. That combo should get you real close to 12's.

I'm running the stock 305 chip.

I don't want to be close to 12's I want to be in the 12's consistantly.

Will the MR run at all w/ the stock chip?

PS- I have a T-5 manual trans w/ stock 3.42's

You're losing so much power to having the completely wrong chip in there already. You'd be a fool if your next move wasn't getting into PROM burning.
Pas that, a MR is a good piece for where you want to be, but the ZZ4 cam is on the small side for a 12 sec. MR car. Thus, rather than 1.6 RRs you'd be much better served to run a bigger cam.

You guys recomending a vigilante...uhhh, yeah, they're great and all (hell i bought one for my stock 305), but he has a stick. Sometimes it helps to read a cars mods/description before you start doling out advice, hehehehe

My suggestion is throw a ZZ9 cam and the right chip,,and screw roller rockers, throw a set of "long slot" rockers and maybe some head work. Then you'll be there.

Ed, please check your mail.

Thanks for all the advice. Can I follow traxion's tech article to get started. When I say "follow" I mean use the exact hardware and software. $250-$300 is a drop in the bucket.

From basic tuning of the prom what can I expect time wise from my car.

Hey Free bird. Since you are in need of more air try stepping up you TB to. I could see a mini ram, 58mm TB, a loser converter, and a custom prom for the new stuff putting you there easily.

Brian Felts- DAMNIT!!!! I HAVE A MANUAL TRANS. I know all about how a higher stall makes me go faster. (sorry, but your like the 4th person who told me that). . .

Poorboy- You know that ticket I just had to pay a fine for, well I've been saving my $$ for that for a while. 6 months suspended license added more $$ to pad the pocket book w/. I'll take you up on the offer of burning me a prom. If I don't beat you to it.

86ZZ4- What drag radials? Goodyear F1 Steel 255/50/16 gives me a best of 1.93 60' Thats w/ a stick. Most of the time I get a 2.0 sec. "They" say a 0.1 in your 60' is good for 0.2 in the 1/4.
13.7/ 2.16 = 13.5/2.06
13.5/ 1.96 = 13.3/1.86

Its not as easy as it sounds.
