another valve cover question

ok, I was told by my mechanic that the only rockers I can use are the 1.5 Crane gold roller rockers with my stock centerbolt valve covers. what I am wondering is if I can use less expensive rockers with taller valve covers for less than the price of the 299 dollar rockers alone. . any suggestions?? thanx

I was raised a FORD guy, but I def. couldn't resist that one.

You could use cheaper 1.6RRs and buy taller valve covers. Is that what you wanted to do?

I wanna just use the 1.5, cuz it is all I need, but my mechanic was saying that the only ones that fit are the comp cams magnum rockers and the crane golds, I don't know if it has to do with clearance or the fact that they are center bolt valve covers. . I just kow that summit sells rockers that sound exactly like the crane ones for half the price and that valve covers aren't all that expensive, I am just wondering what road you suggest I take

I'm using comp cams 1.6:1 full aluminum RRs under my stock covers with L98 aluminum heads. No problems; didn't even have to trim the supports.

I'm Crane 1.6's with the stock valve covers and it works great. I read that you're supposed to grind away some of the valve cover supports but I wasn't sure what I was supposed to grind, so I just ground everything that was near the rockers. They also go on a little easier. If you're going to get 1.5's at least get the 1.6's for the same price.

U have cast iron heads, not aluminum, although u do have the "Corvette" engine... albeit with the iron heads... btw the aluminum heads still have the same intake and exhaust size valves, but I believe the compression is slightly higher. U have 64cc combustion chambers, the Corvette may have 60, I'm not sure.
