Car has more power?

I have an 89 gta with a 350 and for the first 10 mins. i'm driving it, it has a ton of power spins wheels effortless and squaks tires from 1st to 2nd.Then when it warms up the car seems to lose the power.Any suggestions?

Re: Car has more power?

Sounds like your losing power when the EGR opens. Some people say they disconnect the EGR for more power. Just a thought.

Ummm no...EGR valve might be sticking open is so fix it dont remove it....egr removal gains NO HORESPOWER if it was functioning properly....EGR only functions at steady cruise as soon as u punch it, it stops so it like all other emissions devices dont really hinder performance....now what exactly is ur problem? im not sure...u only "feel" a difference in power doesnt mean there actually is....

I think this is normal. A cooler engine will perform better, but not better for the engine. I find the same with my car.

Re: Car has more power?

well heat is the enemy of power to a point....once everything gets good and heat soaked you are gonna naturally lose some power

.... I don't know about it being literally ten minutes, but, your engine is running much richer with an open circuit. When the loop is closed, the air fuel ratio isn't as rich, nor is it really ideal from a performance perspective, mainly from a emissions. Try bumping up the fuel pressure some. If that doesn't work, is it possible hot air is making it's way into the air inlet, meaning, are you running one of those oxymoron cold air intakes, where the filter is right next to the engine?

You'd need to install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, it's a very straightforward install, even for a novice. I see that your in New Jersey, ever hit Raceway Park....?

Re: Car has more power?

switch your fan switch to turn on at cooler temps... 200 or 176... 225 is hot enough to kill performance and engine life.

Re: Car has more power?

Ive noticed the same , when cold its roaring like a beast but as soon as it gets warm , no more beast..:-( When i scan with datamaster I can see that there is some knock retard at wot , and my guess is thats whats causing the bad performance. not sure if the knocking is false or true , hard to tell. When engine is cold and in open loop the ecm isnt monitoring knocks , correct?
And engine is on basetiming , maybe this is whats causing the differences in performance hot-cold?

your leaving out one major part. when taking out your egr valve you are open to removing your smog pump which give you one less pulley, a smaller belt and well less stress on your engine which means you actually will gain some horse power.
