fastest stock intake and runners

just wondering what the fastest anybody has been with the stock runners. i went 12.50 with a lot more left in it with tuning and better air. my combo is a stock bottom end with afr 195's, comp 276hr14 cam w/1.6 rockers and 1 3/4 longtubes. just wondering how much the stock runners can support before i swap them out.

A little off topic, but what stall converter are you using in you car?? I got a 2600 and I think I could use a little more. Just curious.

I don't know but you must be pretty much there. You have to be leaving a lot of power on the table. Sounds like once you get the intake up to date you will have an 11 second car. Those AFR heads are awesome.

Cool, I need to get higher stall converter, I would like to come off the line a little harder 3500 is what I was looking into.

What RPM do you launch at??

1900 is all the brakes will hold. the launch is nice! I had it made for the motor and couldn't be happier, very consistent.

Re: fastest stock intake and runners

Sounds like you got a nice setup there. My brakes only hold to around 1900 also , it does make for a fun launch when you can cut 1.6 60 ft.

I think you've maxed out the runners on your car there. The best I could do with mine was a 12.7, after that it didn't make any sense to keep them seeing the RPM restriction.

Re: fastest stock intake and runners

yeah, thats what i figured. how much can i expect to gain with large tube runners? I have a edelbrock base, but unported it is the same as stock. how much rpm increase is there in a ported base/big runner set up? it went to 6500 no problem when i was trying to find the right wieght/spring setup for the governor in the trans. i know its not making much power there but i was suprised that it went that high. i have it shifting at 5500 now.

Re: fastest stock intake and runners

I have no doubt your motor rev'ed to 6500rpm but I bet the horsepower curve was dropping like a rock. In our experience you need to drop the long tube runners if you want to make any kind of power above 6000rpm.

Kevin91Z has a post on this subject. He experimented between his highly modifed SLP short runner system, AS&M big diameter long tube runners and the Accel SuperRam. Clearly the modified SLP short runner system was the horsepower champ.

As far as runner length goes GM has shown the way with the LS1 intake system. I believe the total runner length including the heads is around 13.5". I believe that length is a good compromise for a car that spends a lot of time on the street. As always that number can be fine tuned for your particular application.

Are you running that 12.5 @ 108 with the stock base, or edelbrock base????

Either way that's damned impressive. Your running right there with the California crew...... on stock parts!!!!!

Re: fastest stock intake and runners

I'm running the edelbrock base, but i was VERY unimpressed when i pulled it out of the box. the port sizes are identacle, the only reason i got it was because the bolt pattern on my heads are for an older intake. there is alot of room for porting the intake but i didnt have the time to do it and just slapped it on.

Re: fastest stock intake and runners

The Edelbrock intake and runners are only good for about 15hp if you ask me. They are poorly fabricated and don't flow much more than stock. The base definately does more than the runners for gaining hp.
