new setup running HOT!!!???

Now I don't have any hard #'s to substantiate my claim, but my underhood temps seem extraordinarily high compared to when I had a stock intake and cast iron heads.....

The only thing that has changed is the top end..... Intake/Heads/Cam (See Sig)

I might be running low Fuel pressure, Which would cause a lean/hot condition wouldn't it? Could it be the Aluminum Heads putting out more heat? My ceramic headers were glowing pink @ 2000 RPM after 10 min, (which I guess makes sense) with a house style turbo fan blowing under the nose for cooling. My water temp was 170*F

I've melted/burned my #5 spark plug wire and boot (it actually caught on fire!!! It was an Accel 8.8mm). Now I don't know whether it spontaneously combusted or popped off the spark plug and touched the header, but I've melted 2 more cheap wires on the same plug and they did pop off I saw them(all 3 were 90* boots.) Since then I've bought Moroso's Ultra 40 Race Wires Good for 600 degrees with Taylor Boot protecter sleeves (good for 1200*F), so that should take care of the heat, because I couldn't touch the wires last nite after I turned the car off even though they are now tucked neatly out of the way... (I haven't put the Moroso's on yet as I don't wanna killl these $150+ wires and $50 sleeves)

I'll find out tomorrow what my fuel pressure is set at....

Am I just being a worry wart??? Comments.....

Re: new setup running HOT!!!???

your headers should not glow. Sounds like a super lean condition to me, I would get your fuel worked out before running the car much.

Re: new setup running HOT!!!???

I know..... somethings not right there.

I picked up a pressure guage for my fuel rail this morning and will put it on after the kids go to bed. I bought a Kirban AFPR and have it on the car but have no idea where it's set at. I know that wasn't smart, but I didn't think that it would be so lean!

I've only been able to get it running for 10 minutes at a time till it seems too hot and I turn it off..... or burn a wire I hope that I didn't hurt anything

Can't wait to see what fuel pressure it's been running....

Re: new setup running HOT!!!???

Well the fuel pres was around 20-22psi.... not enough I guess, although I thought that it idled alright just the same. I'm glad that I sat around to watch it.

Anyways, I bumped the fuel pressure up to 47lbs with no vacuum, which dropped down to around 40 once the vacuum line was hooked back up.

It Idles nice and didn't seem to get as hot....? I only ran it for another 10 minutes in the garage again.
I threw the new wires on with sleeve protectors which should solve any hot wires.

Tomorrow I go for a test run!!!!!!!

Re: new setup running HOT!!!???

I have my fuel pressure set at 44#'s and think that the 24# injectors are small for a 357.Most HSR 350's are running 30# injectors and I'm running 32# with a 357 4 bolt in the works.

Re: new setup running HOT!!!???

I'm gonna be saving up for some new Bosch Gen III injectors from www.fuelinjectorconnection.com
You gotta watch the videos.....
But I thought that 24 pounders were sufficient enough, I gotta start tuning as well. All that will probably begin next summer as it'll be time to put the car away in 5-6 weeks
