DESPERATELY NEED HELP FROM YOU EXPERIENCED TPI GUYS
I have a 91 z28 with l98 when I bought the car it was stock other than
3.73 gears B&M ripper shifter, comp cams cam, freshly rebuilt w flat top pistons, moly rings and about 20k on the rebuilt motor. I decided it was time to have the top of the motor rebuilt
I got a bored polished plenum, got my intake manifold bored to match the bored polished runners. Also got thermaltake fan switch 160 degree thermostat,
an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, msd 6a, msd blaster coil, ngk plugs, msd 8mm wires, 30lb accel injectors and a 58mm bbk throttle body.
blaster coil, and a brand new bolt kit for the rebuild.
After I got the car back from the mechanic,
It doesnt have any power and it idles pretty high, and is running rich.
the mechanic put the fuel pressure at 40 psi
NOW im stuck with a car I can't drive, no transportation.
PLUS THE MECHANIC LEFT MY CAR UNLOCKED THE WHOLE TIME IT WAS THERE
SO THE SHIFTER **** FOR MY BM RIPPER SHIFTER WAS STOLEN AND MYH 1000CFM KN AIR FILTER WAS STOLEN.
I dont know where I went wrong. Did I buy too big of injectors
is the 58mm throttle body too big, do I need a custom prom for it to run okay?
Or do u think i have a bad iac? it was working fine before I brought the car to him.
I am really lost here as to whats to do any suggestions would be appreciated immensly.
thanks for your time,
Marcus

Re: DESPERATELY NEED HELP FROM YOU EXPERIENCED TPI GUYS
if you have an upgraded cam and bigger injectors you most definitely need to have the prom tuned to match those changes.
the 58mm throttle body, depending on how the minimum air adjustment was done, could affect your idle rpm.
the car needs a new prom immediately to account for the injector change and thermostat possibly(fans), then the car needs to have the minimum air adjustment for your iac, and TPS checked for idle voltage.
from there, check for air leaks(plenum, runners, vacuum fittings, etc), and then adjust the prom to improve your idle and air fuel ratio across the board. you can use tunerpro to begin datalogging to see where you go rich/lean, etc. a wide band helps but it's not completely necessary unless you have a huge cam in there.
don't run the car too much with the fuel as it sits, you are dumping in way too much fuel and could possible ruin the bearings, depending on how rich it is.

Re: DESPERATELY NEED HELP FROM YOU EXPERIENCED TPI GUYS
IS IT EASY TO MAKE A CUSTOM PROM, ALSO DO I HAVE TO KNOW THE LOBE AND DURATION OF MY CAM FOR THIS? I KNOW IT'S NOT A VERY BIG CAM, PERSONALLY ID RATHER USE AN LT4 HOTCAM. I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE BURNING PROMS BUT I AM A MCSE CERTIFIED COMPUTER TECH.
----------
I DOWNLOADED TUNERPRO NOT SURE WHERE TO GO FROM HERE.
WHAT HARDWARE OR CABLE DO I NEED TO USE TO HOOK THIS UP TO MY CAR AND IMPORT WITH.

Blueridge, goto moates.net and contact them. They have everything you'll need hardware wise to tune. Tuning is not hard once you get the hang of it, just a little intimidating at first. Sorry to hear that mechanic experience, you got screwed somewhat. I can't stand d**kheads that work on a car not knowing what they're doing.

Dumping that much fuel as well I'd be careful not to washdown the cylinder walls. If you can smell alot of gas in your oil then I would NOT drive it any further until you can fix some of these issues.

Re: DESPERATELY NEED HELP FROM YOU EXPERIENCED TPI GUYS
you don't absolutely need the autoprom unless you want it. you could get away with something like:
burn1
aldlu1/cabl1
gp1
that is a bit cheaper, but lacks the real time emulation. not truly necessary to get you up and running, but it is nice once you become a tuning pro.
you can do some of this stuff cheaper also,
if you are handy with a soldering iron, you could build your own aldl adapter.

Also search the boards Lots of good stuff and links to sites were you can download prom codes. There is a super chip baseline program for our chips called Super_aujp. Aujp is the prom code from GM this one is considered the best one to start with . The super version was put together by some of the more experienced prom tuners to use as a performance baseline chip by us less experienced tuners. I would start with that chip code and tune from there.

Re: DESPERATELY NEED HELP FROM YOU EXPERIENCED TPI GUYS
Install a set of 24#/hr Ford Racing injectors. Do that now, and see how the engine runs. You might fix your problems by only changing the injectors, and therefore, not have to buy any tuning hardware & software. By swapping out the injectors to 24s, you will bring the fueling back to where the ECM expects it to be. The learning part of the ECM (the BLMs) can handle a change from 22s (which is factory size) to 24s, but NOT 22s to 30s without ECM re-programming. The Accel 30s are killing you if you have mainly a stock L98 350 with only porting involved.
Give this a try, I think that you will be pleasantly surprised.

any idea what set I should buy? SvO?

this sounds much better but I'm having trouble finding the prom code to download?

Re: DESPERATELY NEED HELP FROM YOU EXPERIENCED TPI GUYS
SVO does not exist anymore. Now, that department at Ford is called SVT, however, the injectors that you want come from Ford Racing, these are SVT parts. Summit Racing has this part number: FMS-M-9593-A302...
These are 24#/hr injectors; I run these in my car. Been running them for about 10 years now.
OR
You can try Summit Racing,s 24#/hr injectors and save about $50.
