strange whistling/whining sound

Hey all, i have what i think is a vac leak of some sort but in not very sure. i was driving the bird around then out of no where this very loud sound comes. what i find is it will not make no sound when you first start it. when you give it gas it starts. it whines when it is driven at speed but not when accelerating. it also whines at idle. from what i can hear its coming from around the distributer area. i have checked the lines around there and they appear to be secure. what you guys think. is it a vac leak, or maybe something else? plz help

Re: strange whistling/whining sound

thats kinda hard with just a description like that on the net...but put your hand on the distributor cap when its making the sound and see if its vibrating and push on it side to side a little bit and see if the sound stops. I had a dist do that once, and when you put your hand on it, it was a super fast vibration that matched the tone. worth a shot.

If it was a vac leak, it would normally make the noise at idle and go away with throttle.
