How to tell if o2 sensors bad?

Im pretty sure my o2 sensors bad because i just replaced the plugs twice? i think and their bad again, so im pretty sure its my o2 sensor. Is there any other way to tell if its bad, the car also bucks/misses at very low throttle once its warm. So if anyone knows why it dose that that would be awsome. also its not throwing a code about the sensor i just is doin the same things my moms car did when her sensor was bad. im also getting really bad gas milage. thanks in advance. Nate

pull the o2 sensor and shake it, if it makes a rattling noise when you do, its toast.

Re: How to tell if o2 sensors bad?

I agree. On my 1995 Concorde I pulled mine and found that they had a => very small <= rattling noise. I replaced both of them (my car has only two) and my SES light no longer goes off and on as I drive. This problem did NOT leave any problem codes. I just took a wild guess because the car ran fine (even passed E-check with the SES light acting up) and the O2 sensors were about due for a change anyway.

If you have bad mileage it might be something that CAUSES the O2 sensors to start reporting a problem.

Check all of your vacuum hoses for starts. Make sure they are in place and not cracked (leaking) at the connections.

The best O2 sensors run 100,000 miles some replacements only 30,000, this is off the spec sheets.

Yes, think of them as spark plugs, if the plugs are not lasting the O2 will foul up also (think about oil or carbon).

Older camaros and birds should only have one ... on either the passenger or drivers side exhaust manifold. Later 4th gen and the most modern cars of today have 4 ... or maybe even more ... on both the passenger and drivers side exhaust manifold both before the cat and after the cat.

On my 1989 305 FI Vin E (TBI) it is on the driver side manifold. If you climb under the car near the driver's side front wheel and look up it sticking out and easily seen.

Well, on my 89 firebird it is. I'm not sure if the setup changed so much between 89 and 91 or if it is different between camaros and birds. But yeah, I would put my money on passenger side exhaust manifold.
