Car dieing at stop lights and when put in reverse.
Hey, Today on my way to school i hit a stop light and was sitting there for a minute and my car just died for no reason. Wasn't running bad or anything. Well on the way home it did it again. Also while i was puttin it in the garage it died twice on my. This is the first time this has happened to me and its really aggrivating me. Also some times when i put it in reverse it will just die. Whats up with this? Anyone have a solution? Thanks -Matt

I would check the following...
1) the ignition module in the distributor
2) the fuel pressure at the rails (to see if it is steady)
3) check the resistance (ohms) on the fuel injectors
4) make sure fuel filter is clean
5) check for vacuum leaks

sounds like a vacuum leak.
Vacuum leaks show their ugly face when there is no load.
If it were the other things, the previous guy posted, you would notice it while under load.
Tighten up your TB, plenum, check all lines.

Keep in mind a vacuum leak could be caused by a gasket that cracked into small separate pieces and the pieces could drop out of place one by one.
And for the hoses, they could have worked loose or developed cracks that are not obvious. Some cracks could be right at the point where they contact the various components. Some could be cracked at some distance from a component. So investigate each hose as if you know it is a problem hose. Some of the lines could be the hard plastic type that are very small in diameter and you have to look very closely for hairline fractures or complete breaks. If you do a 'really good job' just one time then you can eliminate those items checked from contributing to the problem you are experiencing and move on to other areas of interest.
And when you do find the real cause of the problem please remember to post what you found so that others will benefit from your efforts.

I agree with vacuum leak. Exact same thing happened to my car - stop/reverse. I had some leaks that I knew about, and when I fixed the leaks, it fixed the problems.

i checked it and there is air being sucked but i havn't found where at. We got some of the tails from the hurricane and we ave some major damage to our house and garage. Thankfully the car is fine lol the garage needs a new roof now. But i will have the leak fixed and see what happens soon. thanks -Matt
