350 TPI Cam Question
Hey crew,
Im thinking about digging into my motor to liven her up a little bit. I want to add a cam but im not sure how they work with these cars with the computer and such. I want to have a nice loopy idle that nice muscle car sound.
I see that the duration is stock specs are decent but there is more.
i found this one online and wanted to see what u thought. also what was good for a decent upgrade from stock and why.

Re: 350 TPI Cam Question
If you haven't upgraded your valve springs, that cam is probably too much. Do a quick search and see what others are running with smilar setups to yours.

Re: 350 TPI Cam Question
Keep it smaller and be a lot happier.
Hot cam would be about it if Im driving it everyday.
U want something with torque all the way around.
Comp has a very nice 212/218 cam with .488/.495 lift that works very very well in TPI cars with a little tuning. Sounds aggressive and and comes on like a freight train if u throw a little head work at it too boot.

Re: 350 TPI Cam Question
Eldelbrock performer cam is what i ran in mine. It keeps the duration low for the fuel injection,i think it has 214 duration and it not bad on price either.

Re: 350 TPI Cam Question
What are the rest of your mods? There is so many other things you "should" do while the intake manifold is off to swap a camshaft, that its better (in my opinion) to wait and do heads and cam at the same time.
You can put in a better camshaft, but anything that works with the stock computer will give you about 15-20 horsepower and that's it. And if you keep the stock intake, runners, and heads, you're just limiting yourself even further. To get the most benefit from a camshaft swap, you need to have upgraded everything else, first. Any camshaft worth installing (215 intake duration or more ) will *REQUIRE* a custom ECM chip. A hypertech or jet chip is not a custom one.
Lastly, if you still have the stock heads, then your valve springs are 20 years old as well. Replace them at the same time. I can recommend the Manley 22409-16 springs for a stockish cam ( less than 215 duration and .500" lift ) and the 22410-16 springs for a bigger cam ( .500" lift or more ). Use the 23652-16 retainers with either springs and you're good for up to .550" lift camshafts.
