88 iroc wont start
i have a 88 TPI iroc, the engine turns over but wont crank. the ignition system is fine and its getting fuel to the injectors but i don't think they are working right. i dont smell gas out of the exhaust, and if i spray starting fluid in the throttle body it will crank and run for a second. any ideas of what the problem might be would greatly be apreciated.
thanks
Joseph

Do you have a fuel pressure tester?Could possibly be your fuel pump.
Just because you hear it come on for 2 seconds like its suppose to doesn't mean that its working properly.A tester will give you the answer.

Re: 88 iroc wont start
i have a Auto meter phantom gauge for fuel pressure and i have a vacuum gauge as well under the hood, i have a BBK adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
its reading the pressure for the lt1 injectors at 50 lbs when the key is turned,
and its flowing fine through the return, and they arnt bleeding after the key is off. i think it might be in the wiring

Re: 88 iroc wont start
Fellas, I am having the same issue also. No start. Have crank it SO much it has flooded the crankcase with 3 gallons of fuel and stalled the starter. Never have I seen such a dilemma.
Ran all the test... fuel pressure, CTS, Spark, Ig mod and in fact, have replaced the whole distributor since sepearate parts almost came to the same price. Anyways timing is not an issue either.
All that said, after I got the throttle body off to check for a BAD vacuum leak(only 3 lbs during crank) I noticed TONS of black soot buildup inside the plenum. Is that normal or has my EGR valve been puking on me all along?
Sorry to hijack the thread but we may be in the same boat. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!
