How does a TPI react to a turbo?
Hey guy,
I've been into thirdgens since I was 15, and now finally after a divorce and getting over having to loose my 89 Formula, I got another chance at my dream car. I bought a 91 Z28, 305 with a 5 spd. and a G92 performance package. It has 3.42 rear and dual cats (I have only read about the less restrictive exhaust, never actualy seen one much less thought I would ever own one). Needless to say I'm excited about turning this sweetheart into a beast. I want to Turbo Charge it, but it's hard to find any info as far as numbers go. Does anyone know about what king of power is to be expected from thowing a turbo onto a lightly modified and tuned TPI? I have an idea what to expect but I would really like to know what you guys have gotten from it.

im not sure about hp numbers but remember more power stresses everything ALOT more. especially the t-5 it aint that strong, pretty much max power capability on a stock motor. Just something for you to consider.

theres really no real turbo kit for these cars. however your best bet would be to look into bbs' turbo headers seeing as theyre making them again. they make the best quality header. after that the parts are pick and choose what you need/want really no part numbers for it. if you wanted boost youd be easier going supercharger. also as long as you dont abuse the tranny itll be fine but the clutch on the other hand might have a quick death.

well

the truth is I plan on dropping a t-56 as soon as possible. My cuz has a built one in his fourth gen but he wants to make it an automatic for the strip. I was going to put in a high performance clutch I just haven't exactly picked which one I like best yet so all those are covered. But thanks

This is thread worth the read, if you have a week or so... 130+ pages now. The first half of it chronicles a guy throwing a cast-piston 140,000 mi, .040 over, 2bolt main truck motor (with a sleeve in one cylinder) in his twin-turbo and nitroused f-body and then proceeding to see what it takes to kill it... and it never dies, eventually making 738whp and running a 9.37 at 150 before he pulls it. It's a great example of bucking conventional thinking and smart hot rodding.
It got me seriously planning for turbos anyways!
