I just cleaned my IAC valve and could not remember ever replacing it, so it may be the original. Do these thing wear out or go bad???

Re: IAC Valve

Sure they go bad...but ususally thy die and don't move in/out. Can m\be monitored easily enough with a scan tool by watching the IAC counts.

PS...if it's still out, do not appply voltage to it, unless you're in a really confined area and you can locate the pintle

Also, clean the passage ways and seat in the TB as well.

I think the count is controlled by the ECM and what you are seeing on the scanner is what the ECM wants. I dont think the count can be used to verify that the pintle is actually moving, only that the ECM is commanding the pintle to move.

No, the IAC motor is a phase motor, I/e "stepper count" and what you read from a scanner is the counts off the motor, and it's current location/postion (as it tells the ECM where it is at)

Re: IAC Valve

if you take it out and there is "slop" or play in it when you try to move it, get a new one. And you'll notice smoother idle and shifts on a stick car.

Re: IAC Valve

My TA started normally. but after it warmed up it would idle high. So I checked the IAC and it was broken. So I replace it and set it and now it won't start and stay running without giving it a little gas for a few minutes. After it is warm it seems to idle pretty smooth.

Does anyone know if the ECM is different for a stick car? Even in neutral the idle still doesn't want to come down til a complete stop. I'm a t-56 conversion on an original T-5 but I pulled the ECM the other day and it was a reman from 1995 with a jet chip from 1991. Anyone in J-ville FL have all this tuning equipment they would like to rent? Anyone want to get together and help each other rebuild a couple T-56's?
