purge cannister solenoid gets too hot
purge cannister solenoid gets too hot
I just purchased an 86 305 tpi powered z28.............real cheap, of course, it was not running very well at all. The 'service engine soon' light had been removed, and the 85 mph speedo was not working. I replaced that unit with a used 115 mph unit that now works and I also replaced the CTS, IAC, TPS, and 02 sensor. I also changed the cap, rotor button, plugs and fuel filter. I put a bulb in the car and the only code that reads is code 44. I was convinced i knew what was wrong (vacuum leak) and i took off the top of the engine, and sure enough the middle lower manifold bolts were so loose i could take em all out by hand.......so after getting all that tightened up I was convinced the car would run great...............It didnt. I still have a hesitation and code 44 as if a major vacuum leak is present.
The only thing out of the ordinary is that the purge cannister solenoid is getting very very hot. i replace it and the replacement gets hot. Does anyone know why this could be? I do not own a fuel pressure gauge, and out of pure desperation I removed the fuel tank today without any idea of what my fuel pressure is. The fuel pump and tank have been replaced recently. The O ring that holds the pump/unit in the tank was too large and the tank would not pressurize.....could this cause me all this trouble? What about a MAP sensor? I havent even driven this car 15 miles..............it runs that bad.............Please help out a young Jedi.........Thanks

Have you seen this? Code 44 is for a lean condition, could be more than a vacuum leak

No I havent....Thats going to help..........Thanks
I am going ahead and replacing my fuel pump since I removed the tank. I just want to make sure everything is working like it should............I have 4 lines comming out of my fuel pump/sending unit, and since I have removed it from the car I would like to make sure it is functioning correctly. Of course, one of the lines is the main fuel supply. Two of the remaining three appear to be vents. The last line has what I assume is a check valve in it. It only works under a vacuum.........correct?
And what about that canister purge solenoid? I just dont think that thing should be getting that hot? does anyone have any ideas on why that is happening?

Re: purge cannister solenoid gets too hot
the 4 lines should be
1 fuel supply, 1 fuel return, 1 that vents above the rear axle and 1 that runs to the canister under the hood. I think thats right.
Keep us posted and I'm sure we can help you get it back going.
