tpi plenum and runner modding

I was wondering if anyone has tried modding a tpi so it has two larger plenums (with some kind of balance pipe) w/ 2 separate throtle bodies? does anyone think it would work, and make better power?

Re: tpi plenum and runner modding

i dont know if anyone has tried that, im farely new to the tpi set of things, but i think one problem would be the MAF. if you run a MAP or speed density setup, it might be possible i think, but running a single MAF for two plenums seems kinda redundant too me, and even if you ran two MAFs, think of the harness and tuning time your getting at? can you say R&D $'s?

kewl idea though, the only thing close ive seen is an SLP TPI ram intake on ebay for 2400 bux, but its still a single, looks kinda kewl though.

Re: tpi plenum and runner modding

I thought it would be interesting, but it'll be a long ways down the road, my carb works fine now(if it aint broke don't fix it!) I'll have to upgrade my whole fuel system.

I was kinda thinking of something like the T-ram in the pic without the middle and the throttles on the outsides. it might look cool but it would be ALOT of work for nothing if it won't perform!

Re: tpi plenum and runner modding

I saw something similiar that was done to an LT1 intake system. A second plenum was grafted to the top of the regular plenum. Two throttle bodies were used. The upper plenum mainly fed the back 4 cylinders. The lower plenum mainly fed the front four cylinders as I remember. But the two plenums were connected. This went into a race car where hood clearance was not an issue.

Re: tpi plenum and runner modding

awakening the dead!

This is my idea.

I got a speed density TPI off craigslist pretty cheap so I think I'm going to give it a shot.

I'm going to start off by cutting down the stock runners, maybe a little shorter than halfway. then I'm going to work on fabbing up the air boxes.

Any suggestions before I begin?

Thanks-

Eric

PS,

Please don't make fun of my paint drawing!

Re: tpi plenum and runner modding

If you connected the two plenum areas you would have the Superram.

sort of, they will be connected, but only with a balance pipe (similar to haveing an "H" or "X" pipe in your exhaust, also, the runners will prob be shorter, that drawing is more of a rough sketch than anything else, also, the superam uses the factory TB placement.

Re: tpi plenum and runner modding

chrysler actually did something like this on the concord/intreped i think it was the 98ish ones....the 3.5 v6 had two throttle bodies and each was only responsible for 3 cylinders. The car moved to say the least...the only problem i see is that there is now two of everything and that much more that can fail. but go for it! it would be interesting to see it done.

The "two of everything" issue is the part I think I'm going to have trouble making work, I'll figure something out though.

So basically what they had for the WX-3 concept.

I plan on using the same thing, for my engine build. It's not original, but still looks cool.
