TB Mounted Air Filter - Pros and Cons?
I have seen this setup as part of a performance package at Jegs, I think (can't find it now) and have wondered whether there is any advantage to it?
Can I please get some input from the experienced folk on this board? Pros and Cons wanted..
Thanks

Re: TB Mounted Air Filter - Pros and Cons?
Pros.....No intake tubing that might neck down & restrict air flow.
Pretty for car shows?
Cons......It becomes a hot air intake, which means less O2.
Which is BAD. All the air in the world, means nothing f there is little O2 in it. And if you have a MAF TPI, a TB mounted filter isn't even gonna be possible.
TB mounted filters are a bad thing & way too easy to build you own, or just retain (for Camaros especially) the stock air intake. Just a little tweaking on it Camaro one makes it flow very good.

Hey Stephen.. thanks for that!..
Because of where i live, everything is a hot air intake
So the camaro air box mod that i have seen on here seems to be the best way to go.

Re: TB Mounted Air Filter - Pros and Cons?
For sure bro leave the TB mounted air filter for the street rod guys,it kills performance of an engine 5 min after start-up!
the ram-air pans from the fog lamps is the best way to go...you can also enhance the breathing more by adding the tubing from a corvette you will have to cut the TPI air box back a bit but it will remove the 3" hole and you will end up with a 8" oval which was worth an additional tenth for me.
the picture is if you have a MAF if you are SD you can use the boot from a SD vette.

Kills performance in relation to what?
On a Firebird comparing from an open air intake at the back of the radiator to the factory air filter setup it doesnt make any difference at all. I've done a back to back test at a track showing zero difference. I'm sure the Camaro is a different story since its fairly simple to make a 'cold air' intake and because the factory air filter setup allows more air to flow from an already cooler location than the Firebird's factory setup.

Camaros are lucky that way.
I also did back-to-back tests on my firebird. I went from TB mounted filter to a 4" tube setup in the stock location. The 4" tubing was a tenth quicker than the tb mounted setup.
