LT1 throttle body with TPI ECM
LT1 throttle body with TPI ECM
Has anybody put an LT1 throttle body onto a TPI engine and controlled it with the stock TPI ECM?
I know the TPS sensors are different but the LT1 sensor is much more common so the conversion plug is no big deal.
Are the IAC motors controlled the same? I seem to remember something about a stepper motor vs. another design in something I read a long time ago but can not find it again to refresh my memory.
I have access to a 58 mm LT1 throttle body for a really good price and would like to use it on my engine but still use the stock TPI ECM.
I am running a Victor Jr. intake with a fabricated intake elbow that puts the throttle body in the stock TPI location with 190cc heads on a 408 inch motor so the stock 48mm throttle body is a major restriction.
With my wife unemployed my budget is pretty much non-existent so saving a few hundred dollars by using the LT1 throttle body vs. buying a new TPI specific throttle body will make a huge difference in whether my car makes it onto the road again any time soon so any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Re: LT1 throttle body with TPI ECM
I believe it can.
In a sticky at the top of this forum about the tPI OBDII swap it's claimed that the later vortec harness will plug directly into an LT1 TB during the swap but that the harness can be spliced to work with the original TPI TB.
If nothing else I can all but guarantee the TPS will work so if the to if the LT1 IAC is the same screw on type as my TPI then you simply have to swap them.

Re: LT1 throttle body with TPI ECM
I originally wanted to run the OBD-II setup with a 90mm LS style throttle body but my budget crunch killed that idea. I am now back to keeping my 730 ECM and making do with that.

Yes you can in short.
You hould get a different elbow and run a LS1 TB. They are cheap enough off ebay. Thats what Im doing with a Vic.Jr converted to efi.

Re: LT1 throttle body with TPI ECM
For what a new intake elbow and the LS1 throttle body cost I could have my stock TPI throttle body rebuilt and bored out to 54mm.
I can get a 52mm LT1 throttle body off of a friend for half the cost of either option.
Now that I know it will work I can put the money I save here into the fund for the rest of the parts I need to get the car back on the road.
Thanks for the help.
