SLP Intake Runners?

Hey, Im new to the board so i want to say whats up to everyone. I have heard mixed reviews on the SLP intake runners so I wanted to get everyones opinion on them. My plans include a header back exhaust and throttle body and i will be making my ram air hood functional very soon. So should I invest the 375.00 odd dollars for these or are they a bust?

Re: SLP Intake Runners?

They are as small as stock right out of the box, but they are great when you port them and open up the divider some more.

Some of us in SoCal have gone so far as to cut open the outside and completely remove the divider in the center. for "SLP siamesed runners" to see the info.

Re: SLP Intake Runners?

i love my. if you polish the intake and the runner it just looks bad ***. i ported mine along with a eldlebrock base and it pulls nicely to redline. if you dont port them i heard it can acctully hurt performance, but they are super thick so you can hog them out a lot.

Re: SLP Intake Runners?

Porting & siamesing, you're basically turning your TPI into an LTI intake with shorter runners, higher HP a bit less Torque...

Re: SLP Intake Runners?

I got slp runners but plan to switch to edelbrock. I plan to do a vortec head swap and I read where slp runners don't fit that good on edelbrock vortec intake manifold.

LT1 intake has runners that are like 3.5-4" long, your TPI runners, even siamesed will be longer. Basically you are making them a mid-length runner with a huge plenum.

I had no issue with my SDPC intake, which is the same exact design and casting as the Edelbrock.

If you believe that....you need to put the two of them side by side and look again.

That thing is the biggest piece of crap Edelcrock ever built!

The CSA at the pinch point is 1.77 the 3860 is 1.90 out of the box.
The runners are smaller all the way thru.

Re: SLP Intake Runners?

I have to agree with Don. Edelbrock had a golden opportunity to make improvements to the older design when tooling up for the Vortec version. They blew it big time. Hopefully BBK did not do the same for their TPI setup.

I was talking more with the external fitment, port alignment, and seal from the machined surfaces. Nothing is wrong there.

I might have to agree with you on the port missmatch and intake runners out of the box. I got mine used and slightly modified. When I got it, I did even more. I am running a siamesed ported intake though and did extensive modifications around the injectors and through the runners. Its ALOT better than the stock GM intake that I was running prior. Even with the stock intake runners it would pull well past 5,500 rpm.

FWIW- Edelbrock also blew the GMPP TBI-Vortec intake.

Re: SLP Intake Runners?

ive been using slp runners for awhile. all in all no complaints. i like the way they look more than the edelbrocks. at the moment thougfh ive been looking at tpis brand big mouth manifold and their long tube runners. they boast 1/8" bigger diameter each runner and longer for more torque. kind of pricey though. not sure if i will sell my slp's to get the tpis brand or just port those puppies out to the max.

Re: SLP Intake Runners?

The "TPIS" Runners are AS&M... Deal with them directly... I was yelled at, lied to and insulted when trying to buy from TPIS... Not spending another dime there...

The AS&M Runners are made of tubbing, not a diecast like the SLP / Edelbrock, so they are thinner material...

The TPIS base is from Edelbrock... as to if it's the same exact ??? But it's made by them for them too...
