What Are The Odds Of These Going Bad?

I am referring to both the CTS and TTS (Thermal Time Switch) located in the front of the manifold.

I know the CTS can cause an overly rich condition. While I contribute this probl;em to the stupid Jet chip installed by a PO, I figure since I can pick one up for $20 it won't hurt to just toss in a new one.

But now my car has recently started a new problem. While cranking the engine, I have to hold down the gas pedal in order for it to start. I've narrowed it down to either the cold start injector (It's an 85 setup) or the Thermal Time Switch being bad. Since the TTS is $65 and not exactly a 'for the hell of it' replacement, what are the odds of this being the bad part over the CSI?
