I know its the MAF, but I have swapped it out with another.. Could I be that unlucky and have 2 bad ones or could something else be triggering it??

Go to post 44 and download that file, it tells you what all to check to figure out if its something other than the MAF sensor

 

the relays as mentioned could cause the problem.
MAF power, MAF burnoff and fuel pump relays should
be looked at as well as the wiring, they are on the driver
side engine compartment, near the brake booster.

Also check the 5prong plug/wires for the MAF itself.

Well, I wet out to te garage, wiggled the relays around and switched them around, and the SES light is gone and the car runs pretty good..

Obviously a bad connection at one of the relays.. They looked pretty gressy, so later I will clean them a bit...

 

It is normal for the relays and wiring to have some old electric grease from
the factory. Cleaning the wiring up a bit with some CRC contact cleaner
and whatnot is a good idea, but I wouldnt remove the grease en masse.

If they are the relays, make sure you get the right ones for replacement!

Hopefully, she heals up without too much trouble! Reset the ECM
by disconnecting your battery completely to clear the code and try
to run her!

That grease is for corrosion control, it is for stopping the green stuff from giving you trouble.

 

Well, my wiring gremlins are back!!! Same code, I guess I have to search for some realys and go from there....

Considering switching over to carb, this TPI is getting on my nerves...

 

Question - The 3 relays by the brakle booster.. Are they interchangeable??? I just noticed that 2 have the same part number and the third says MAF Power on it.. Could I have plugged the wrong ones in??? I am goingt o look at the wiring pages now.. Let me know. Thanks.

 

To answer my own question, yes there is a difference.. I read the shematics and found the MAF Power Relay is its own and I had it in the wrong place.... Disconnected the battery for 10 minutes, hooked it up with the RIGHT relays where they should be and voila.... Its back up and running..

I cannot beleive the trouble I have had lately with this car...

When searching for the cause, of the million things that can go wrong with our machines, it is better (cheaper) to allow the smoke (symptoms) to guide your path. Then to squirt water (throw money/parts) at where the fire (problem/issue) "has to be" and then watch the house burn down later (that wasn't "it" now what? ).

It is one of the hardest things to over come, to allow you to get the best cure, for the issue at hand. There are so many things that go bad and cause the exact same symptom, it is hard to sort them all out.

Some are "cheap and easy" and some are "very expensive and hard".

If you are short on cash then time and knowledge are your friends.
