91 speed density motor

ok does a speed density motor have the esc in the memcial? and is the car supposed to have none, one or two friggen knock sensors? my haynes manual does not say which engines have esc module on the firewall or wich is in the memcial it just notes that it could have either one. and the wiring diagram shows 2 wires for knock sensors one white and one blue on opposite sides of the engine. well i have a connector on the white wire but on the blue one there is no connector just the wire. am i suppsed to have a knock sensor on both side? or just the one? this is a 91 z28 speed density motor with 305 to 350 swap.

i belive you have a memcal - my 91 tpi does. and you have ONE knock sensor.
but there is a difference between a 305 and a 350.

Yeah the maf cars use the esc module. The speed density ones do not. You should have one knock sensor with a dark blue wire. The 305 and 350 have different knock sensors. They are engine specific. All engines produce a different harmonic vibration when detonation occurs.

Re: 91 speed density motor

the knock sensor in my car is on the drivers side with a white wire. is it supposed to be on the pass side with the dark blue wire? like i said the haynes book i got is no help because it shows both sides in the wiring diagram. but it dosent specify which one i am supposed to have on my car.

I've got a proper wiring diagram for 90-92 speed density fbodies at the house. When I get home I'll post them here. Has someone been into this engine before? I don't think it matters what side of the engine its on.

Oh yeah, Throw that haynes manual away. Get a chilton and purchase a complete wiring diagram for your car for less than 10 dollars from www.ahdol.com

Re: 91 speed density motor

the connector for the knock sensor is white, at least it was on my 89, the temp switch for the aux cooling fan uses the same exact connector except it is black, again going by my 89. sounds like your wire for the fan switch may have come loose.
