On L98, probably no diff w/ LB9 anyway

Replacing injectors, while I am at it I will obviously

• replace gaskets for intake (lower and upper)
• fuel rail washers etc
• fuel pressure regulator

is there anything else I should do while I have this thing tore apart to this extent?

Are there any tricks to use when pulling the injectors that would make things go easier.

How bout reassembly anything I need to atch out for?

 

It's pretty straight forward....just make sure to move the retainer clips to the open position...
Also, now would be a good time to port and polish the runners and plenum.

 

When installing the new injectors, put a small film of motor oil on the rubber seals. This will allow the injectors to snap into the rails and manifold easier. Plus its good for the seals.

Port and Polish I assume is cleaning the inside of the runners real good and using some sort of compound on them to help air flow thru real well.

 

There are some awesome step by step tutorials on this site to P & P the intake, just do a search.

port your plenum dog. grind down the two lower lips right at the mouth of the plenum. Also grind a little on the inside of the wall at the mouth.

 

i bought the injectors from them also,they run excellent,i bought the 22lb hr bosch II for my 350 .from my experience there stuff is top notch.and like the the post above me pull off the throttle body and you will see two small ramps at the bottom get a carbide burr tool and die grinder and have at it.if you go with the 24 lb you will need a chip burned.my car ran great after,my car had the original injectors at 160k.

 

I went with their Bosch design 3 injectors.

 

I know this sounds stupid but can you really tell a diff right away when driving it?

1) With the new injectors (mine not faulty right now, just old and I figured while I have it apart might as well do it)

2) With the porting and polishing

I guess I am wanting to know from those that have done either, or, or both. Car is basically stock right now except for no cat and new exhhaust.

The car ran pretty good for about 3 mths after getting it (it sat a while before I bought it) then I noticed it leaking antifreeze around lower intake gasket and leaking fuel from fuel rail at the front drivers side where one of the orings are. It def has low vaccum had it checked. The car cranks right up idles well but when you drive it it just stalls right out like its choking, getting no fuel, it even smells like its running lean sometimes. So I stoped driving it until I could get this done. Thought I should start with leaks espicially the fuel leak.

What do you all think of this for porting and polishing?

i did,with the injectors the idle smoothed out,throttle response,and all around driveability,i dont think you will FEEL anything from the porting.

 

I Went with the Bosch III's also. Very easy to swap. You won't need the clips to put them back in.

I only removed the upper plenum so I couldn't take the fuel rail out completely which made a for a little more work but saved on gaskets. I actually didn't have to buy any gaskets because the upper plenum gaskets came with the AFPR I bought.

Good luck jsut remember to make sure you get all of the old O-rings out of the fuel rails and lube up your new ones with a little vaseline.

BTW: fuelinjectionconnection.com is the way to go. Very affordable and the man knows his stuff!

 

I pulled tubes and all since I also swapped the OE tubes for a set of ported SLPs. Definitely noticed a difference immediately on the first test drive.

 

when i got the bosche type III injectors from Jon I definitely noticed an improvement in mileage and idle. he and his guys make a good product. use dishsoap to lube the o-rings like he says to do.. works great and doesn't leave a residue or mess with the o-rings.
