will be hitting 12's in 305

after a long time reading on this site and talking with wrench guy that this setup will in fact hit 12's all day long.....

Along with my signature parts: trick flow heads 175cc, and 218/230 duration at .050", .495/.510" lift, and then go with 1.6:1 rockers for .528/.544" lift. 114 lobe sep, 2800 stall converter

Whats are your views...?

I think you will. That 125 shot is going to help alot. I am trying to hit 12's with motor. I have the Motor, but not the traction.

There are 305's with just heads/cam hitting 12's ...with bolt-ons spray you should be close...like I said in the other post if you want to do a bigger motor down the road save on the heads and cam and just do bolt ons and spray and see where you end up at that..but yes heads/cam spray will run 12's all day long..I just don't think you should bother with the heads/cam on a 305 if all you want is high 12's and your spraying a 125 shot.

I don't think a heads and cam 305 will run 12's... TPI really chokes them out. They would need more than just that to hit 12's... A heads and Cam 350 most of the time only run low 13's...

Re: will be hitting 12's in 305

yea my brother built up his 92 305 tbi camaro with a nice cam and edelbrock intake full exhuast did some work to the heads and it was on the level of my old l98 with just exhaust.. i know my old l98 was not a 12 second car.. so you need to do alot to go 305's in the 12 second range..

Re: will be hitting 12's in 305

There have been a couple members on here hit high 12's on motor only with a heads/cam 305 tpi..A head/cam 350 tpi should run 12's all day..enough people have proven that, and the ones who can't have tuning issues/mismatched combo's...Stock 305's in the later years were nearly as strong as the 350's since they had the same intakes.Plenty of 89-92 305's run 14's stock, and with bolt-on's run low 14's/high 13's.This coupled with a 125 shot would run low 13's high 12's easily. This is with tpi of course...tbi is another story. If it is tbi then you will need heads/cam spray to run 12's.
Most people do not waste time/money on building up 305's thus the reason there is a preception that they need so much to to make them run decent, but 305 tpi can be made to run fairly solid if you are willing to invest the time/money.

Re: will be hitting 12's in 305

I hope you can do it, and would love to see the build up to go with it. I personally love my 305 TPI. Everytime I think about finishing the 383 I started building for it, I worry that I'll never get it running as dependably and have as much fun with the car as it sits now.
