305 rebuild help
305 rebuild help
Hey every one, I have had a few posts on here and I have decided to keep my 305 tpi. Yes, it might not be as good as a 350, but cost is an issue.
I want to get a rebuild kit, and I have been looking. But personally I know very little about them. I have a very mechanical father to help me, but he doesn't know whats different from one to the next. I was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction.
I have seen some kits on there for $300 , and I have seen some for $500. I just don't know what the difference is and if it actually is better. This is hopefully my daily driver after the winter. And I don't need a race car, but I would like a good engine to hopefully turbo this spring/summer.
So if you guys have had good results with a kit, or if you can explain to me which one is better and why it would be greatly appreciated

Re: 305 rebuild help
The first kit is for a pre 87 block. What block do you have? Are you going to keep the stock cam? You also have to consider compression ratio and quench, especially if you are thinking of turbo charging.
Re: 305 rebuild help
O well it is an 87, so I guess the first one won't work. But there are many out there for $300.
I would like to get a new cam, but I am in the dark for that one too. And I know absolutely nothing about compression ratio and quench. So please explain.
