What do I need to get more HP from a 350 TPI?
Hi guys. I need to get more HP out of my 350 TPI. Which heads should I go with? I already have a 94 Z28 cam in the block. I also have 3" exaust with no catalytic converter. I do need exaust headers (still got originals in). So what can I do to gain more horses? Income tax is coming up and Im getting PAID
. Open for suggestions. Thanks. Also, what kind of gains would I be looking at with Aftermarket headers alone?

Headers will help. Hooker 2055 or Dyno Don shorty headers are favored here and will work great. You can cut baffles off bottom of air box to gain more flow. Stock air lid flows around 500cfm where cutting bottoms will add 50cfm more flow.
Heads are where you will make the most power. Once you start modifying engine too much, you will need to tune ecm. However I believe certain cams that are a little more aggressive than stock will work without a tune. I think head choice will come down to how much money you want to spend, and which one is best matched to your 94z28 cam. How much power are you looking for? Anything more than 350hp flywheel you will need a ecm tune and beef up transmission and rear end some. Vortec heads are good and cheap but problem is you need to buy a new manifold base that will fit. Otherwise you might be ok with some procomp heads which are cheap but would be good for power increase.
Stock TPI intake was designed for 305. Porting or buying aftermarket large tube runners will help increase hp and raise power band past 4,500 dead zone. At minimum I would buy larger tube runners and you could port the manifold base some.
Do you have cam specs?

The best HP gains is Dyno Don Headers with dual cats, cut out the bottom of the air filter box, take out screen and file down the fins in the MAF. Oh by the way, Since your car is an 86, you will also need 22lbs injectors and a tune to match the 350.
I manage to pull 350 Hemi cars and 2005-2008 GT Mustangs from 40mph to 135mph in my bone stock 1990 350 IROC 200,000 original miles on the engine with just A Full exhaust system and gutted air box.
