Read the stickies in the "Alternative Port EFI" forum.

This is one of them that will answer a lot of your questions:

Re: iroc l98 HSR

Well my brothers firebird (now mine) had the SLP runners, Edelbrock base, ported stock pluneum, 52 mm throttle body, and 1 5/8 slp headers, hypertech chip, a comp cam with a duration 210 / 218 at 50, and ported stock heads. With that combo the car would do a 14.4 and the car was very good for daily driving. Just thought I'd mention once he changed the heads to some Trick Flows the car got into the 13's
The the pluneum was port by hand via a Dremal that part isn't high tolerance so you can save some money doing that if you buy some new runners. Another thing that will cost you nothing but improves air flow into the engine is to remove the screens on the MAF (just be sure never to run the car without an air filter on if you do that) The old HOT ROD magazines I have talk a lot about stock throttle body and air cleaner box are very restrictive, those are inexpensive to change or modify so doing something with that too would probably be a good idea.

Re: iroc l98 HSR

HSR on a good L98 and alittle bit of tuning will do 250-260whp and run bottom 13's with gear/converter/drag radials in good air. Thats a peppy daily driver.
