injector question

I recently bought a set of design III Ford 24 lb. injectors to replace my design II's, but the design III's do not have a groove in them for the locking ring to lock them onto the fuel rail. Are these the wrong injectors??? The plugs are the same and they are the same length and everything.
Any help would be apreciated as I want to make sure I do this right.

Re: injector question

I just replace mine in my 89 5.7 with bosch III. no clips. Mine were a 1/4 shorter than the multecs. If yours are the same make sure they are seated in the intake manifold. check for leaks after you get the fuel rail back together. Im glad I did.

Re: injector question

No bro. I got em too. They just are suspended in there. Not a big issue but before you put on your upper intake, prime the fuel system to make sure that there are no leaks.

The design lll injectors are a newer design injector and they do not use or require a clip,,,the pressure from the fuel rail is what holds them in place.

If you purchase bosch lll injectors that are shorter than the multecs, just add a second oring to the bottom of the injector or send them to us and we will apply our new adapter to the bottom of the injector making them plug and play.... at no charge to you!

I just got my Bosch III injectors from Southbay yesterday, the ones with the new adapter. Fit and finish was perfect.

Installation can be a little strange the first time though, I think it worked best for me to seat the injectors all the way into the intake, then guide them into the fuel rail. Otherwise they try to push up into the fuel rail too far.

Re: injector question

Actually, for proper fitment they are supposed to be installed into the intake first and then the rail. We are happy that they worked out well for you!

Yeah, I guess by force of habbit I try to put things back together the way they come apart, that being into the rail first then the intake. But without the factory clips, it is difficult that way, much easier to put them into the intake first. I usually get there eventually.

Re: injector question

I had no problems putting them in with them installed into the fuel rail. I did have one problem though, a sore and tired lower back.

Re: injector question

I'll second the sore lower back. My TPI is in a lifted 72 blazer so lots of bending and crunching.

Re: injector question

Thanks for all the input guys. Mine look to be of proper length, so I don't think they need anything, but thank you for the very generous offer southbay.
Now....if I can just figure out how to get this superram together and plug the injectors in once it is. This is the most challenging intake I've ever dealt with, thats for sure.

I used a camaro wheel and tire as a booster, but mostly sat in the engine compartment or laid down over the core support and radiator. I contemplated removing the front tires and dropping it to the ground but I was limited on time and just decided to deal with it. Yep, I'm still dealing with it today, but in the way of a sore back.

It sure would have been alot easier to change the injectors when the engine was still on the stand about a week ago. Live and learn.
