make sure the intake ports on the heads are not too tall. i don't know if it would idle correctly either. not sure if it would work at all.

I don't think it will ... to clarify you have a 305 and it's busted... so you want to drop in an engine you have laying around? ... you will have to connect all of the sensors that go with it... depending on whether your cam is ECM friendly, otherwise it will try to compensate leading to problems... that's if it even idles... your injectors on a 305 are 19 lbs.. on a 383 I think you would need at least 30 lb injectors not sure though... the 305 prom would also cause problems... I would say no... interesting though if you could though... keepING ...

my friend has a 383 with the stock tpi, but he bought the car that way, so no idea what injectors, tune or cam he has.

so the answer is yes, if the tune and injectors and cam all match up accordingly.

Yes you can as long as you get the intake base to seal up to the heads properly.
It will run but not all that well without proper adjustments. Stock 305 TPI intakes/injectors have been run on 406 cube engines. If all the sensors are hooked up right the feedback algorithm will work the same. The ECM doesn't know the actual size of the engine or the actual fuel pressure or injector size.
If you can make adjustments in the PROM you can get it adjusted pretty close. If not, then you can make up some of the discrepancy by raising the fuel pressure by about 20 - 25% (+7 to 10psi).

A switch to 24 lb/hr injectors will also get you close.
Once you change the fuel pressure or injectors you should unhook the battery to force the ECM to relearn the BLM's quicker.
With the stock injectors I wouldn't run the engine at WOT, but driving it around would be fine.

if money is a concern you'd be better off with a carb setup. see if someone has something laying around or you could trade your tpi.
