Leaking O-Rings

I have a 1988 Iroc z 5.7L TPI Camaro. About a year ago, the o-rings around the fuel injectors started to leak on cold mornings. I would end up with a small amount of fuel puddled in the manifold. Once the car warmed, the problem would correct itself. So I replaced the o-ring with GM o-rings, put the car back together and the next cold morning it was leaking again. So I am thinking...fuel rail....fuel pressure regulater...???
Any help would be great or any ideas on this! Hoping to get this car out for some summer fun!! Feel free to post or email me
THANKS

Re: Leaking O-Rings

Could even be a cracked fuel injector.

Re: Leaking O-Rings

How common are cracked injectors? I too have a leaking fuel injector “O” ring issue and have replaced the damn thing twice now and it still leaks!

Re: Leaking O-Rings

I personally had it happen once.
I doubt that it's a common occurance though.

Re: Leaking O-Rings

Ive got the same problem, my #7 injector is leaking out the top where it goes into the fuel rail, they are all brand new injectors and o-rings and its the only one thats leaking. fixed it once, then it stopped leaking and now it started to leak again everytime my fuel system pressurises. possibly a bad o ring? or FPR?

Re: Leaking O-Rings

Well, I just replaced all of the “O” rings (all 16 upper and lower) and moved the “leaky” injector to a new position. The “leaky” injector no longer leaks and the injector that I put into the old leaking position is leaking from the top. All I can come up with is there is an imperfection in the fuel rail that is causing the leak. Any suggestions?

Re: Leaking O-Rings

Could be the rail is damaged or has a burr that is cutting the new oring when you put it in. Are you guys using the injector clips?

Re: Leaking O-Rings

Tear apart your fuel rail and inspect for cracks or anything of that sort. While your at it, buy a new fuel pressure regulator diaphram from Autozone. It comes complete with all o-ring fittings for the fuel rail assembly. Did you apply engine oil to the o- rings prior to installing onto the injector aswell as the injector ports in the intake manifold? If not then chances are that is the issue. If you installed the o-rings on the injector and then into the intake manifold dry as in no lube, then you may of had tore just enough to cause the leak.

Re: Leaking O-Rings

No, I replaced the OEM injectors with Bosh IIIs (no upper clips).
Yeah, I used engine oil the first time, but decided to use a rubber lubricating compound called “Sil-Glyde” the last two times (both in the injector rail and the intake manifold). I had it running yesterday to check for my other issue (overheating) and it seemed to leak a lot less, but I’m still going to replace the injector rail (when I find one). Thanks for the feedback!

Re: Leaking O-Rings

I can tell you where to find one for a reasonable price. Look up and a little to the right. Click on Vender Directory. Look at picture below. Click on Thirgen Ranch. The owner is Denny. Let him know what you need and he'll go out and check if he has the part available. Tell him a past customer ( Chevy86 IROC-Z ) referred you. He may take a while to reply because he is a family man and he is a very busy man. So have patients. He will reply.

Re: Leaking O-Rings

See if you can push the injector towards the rail side and cure the leak. That will narrow down a little if its a length/seating problem, or a bad oring problem.
