How do I solve Edelbrock Intake and Runners vacuum leak??

Hey everyone.

I just had an Edelbrock intake manifold, runners and Holley throttle body installed on my 1987 Camaro and am having a problem with the gasket between one of the runners and the manifold. Apparently it is causing a vacuum leak, and it seems like I need a thicker gasket between the two surfaces. Has anybody come across this before, and would you have any suggestions? Do you know of a gasket set that may help out?

We tried the FelPro GM gaskets first, and the leak was really bad. Then we tried the Edelbrock ones that came in the kit, and it is better, but it still leaks.

I also had to get a throttle body spacer to move the throttle body forward as the IAC housing (coolant tube) was hitting the passenger side runner. I know most projects don't go smoothly, but it would be nice for a change too

Thanks for any help you can give me.

when you tightened everything down, did you tighten it in a criss cross pattern? The way you tighten the lug nuts?

The gasket should be plenty thick. Although, it wouldn't be the first time an "edelbroke" piece has made it out of the factory with a less than perfect fit. I would make sure the plastic pins that come in the gasket are seated in their respective holes, and not sticking out and keeping it from sealing. I am running old accel runners, a ported plenum with scars in the aluminum, and I don't have any vacuum leaks. If you can't get it to seal up, I might think about sending them back.

match your gaskets up to the Edelbrock TPI runners, if i recall correctly you need to run 2x driver side (or vice versa) plenum gaskets with the Edelbrock runners.

also make sure that the EGR is not preventing the Plenum from sitting where it's suppose to sit....

Re: How do I solve Edelbrock Intake and Runners vacuum leak??

I see what you mean about the gaskets. I thought I would have a look at some pictures that I took before putting the runners on my car to compare them to what you were talking about. The Edelbrock runners have the same shape on both sides. Nice how they don't even supply the correct gaskets in the kit :|

Now I know what to look for. Thanks again everyone for the help.
