You shouldn't have to adjust the idle on a TPI car. If you do then something is wrong. There is however an "idle set screw" which you can manipulate if you truly desire to do so. Its right on the throttle body near the actual throttle cable.

it's been moved a bit because of some problems I was having after installing a zz4 cam, it's a long story but yeah my buddy put some wire on the front connector right below the steering column under the driver side and then waited about 15 sec or so then started to mess with idle so now it's really low the damn car dies at every stop ti's really getting to me so does anyone know how to adjust it?

What's with the wire? What is your actual RPMs while idling? Or does it just die all the time?

You cannot simply adjust the idle screw on the throttle body and expect everything to be in sync and run properly. There is a proper way to set the idle.

Here it is: Read it until you understand it....it's not as bad as it seems.

There are also several threads here at thirdgen.org that explain the proper procedure, but the link I gave you explains it well.

Re: How to adjust the idle on my TPI?? Need Help

I just did what that guide said, and the car started scootin' when I got to the part where you put it in drive. I had the parking brake on. I guess I should chock the tires too. My dad suggested jacking the back end up, but I'm not sure that would achieve the desired effect.

In order to keep my engine running, I have to keep my foot on the gas pedal. I'm pretty sure that the engine should be idling while adjusting the screw. Should I adjust the screw until the engine idles on it's own and then proceed with the fine adjustment?

I don't think that adjusting it while in drive with your foot on the pedal, trying to maintain combustion sounds like a good idea.

Keep messing with the gas pedal until it runs without your foot on the pedal, or put bricks under the front tires.

It took a while for me to get it so it wouldn't die, without my foot on the pedal.

How long of a while? I was out there for about 10 minutes, revving.
