Re: motor question need help asap

if you need to re-install your TPI setup..you would need a 86 & later Roller cam block...
if your keeping your 1 piece crank..you will need a 86 & later block
if you convert to a carb setup.. the heads are not so good.. but you can get any 350 block

Re: motor question need help asap

if the rust is not to bad you could re-hone the block and do a re-ring
450.00 for a bare block I would not buy it

I know you have a 86 & later block
but you will not be able to install that roller cam in a 85 & earlier block

In that case just make your engine into a 383 and you don't have to buy a new block or worry about the cam type.
Boring 30 over will get rid of the surface rust in the bores

yes you could make your current block a 383
i would not recommend that... with a 2 bolt main.. with a longer crank stroke

It is ALMOST the same. The oil dipstick is more than likely be on the driverside. If the block is that old, then you know for a fact that it may have significant wear and tear. Before you buy it, ask for the casting numbers. This way you can verify the size of the block. Then have the guy get a measurement of the inside diameter cylinder walls. Look around to see the maximum wear on the inside of the cylinder walls.

Re: motor question need help asap

to make a 383 flow... I would look at Patriot heads or similar <> very good price
sell or trade your block... I went to a machine shop.. and traded blocks they just said I need to dis-assemble
a 350 M block.. is very heavy duty thicker webbing and casting
and 4 bolt main ...you would need retro roller lifters if you want to keep a roller cam
