87 gta 350tpi

my car just recently when i start it sometimes i have to give it gas for it to turn over or it takes a while of cranking to fire up. Once it starts its revs up to like 1500 then drops to 1000 for a while and then to 700 where it goes from 700 to almost 500 then back up in like a serging pattern. Also smokes and smells like gas on startup. I can smell gas while im driving also especialy when i punch it. What do i need to do to fix it. Ive got a tab at a shop that im gonna use for a full tune up and porbably to get my ac working again so i want so see if i can just fix this myself.

 

can be a few things combined, you never know. could have leaking injectors, timing could be off, o2 sensors could have failed. Sounds like bad injectors though, when mine were bad it took longer to start, and started surging and was dying.

 

tune up first also check for vacume leaks. most likely near the charcole canister. these cars btw always smell like fuel

 

yes they probably all smell like fuel but not to the point where u get out of the car wearing gas cologne.

 

where is the vacume line that runs to the charcoal canister

 

drivers side runs right past the ac to a small black cylinder in front of the cruise control assembly.......where is the fuel smell? is is coming from under the hood or just out of the exhaust? also whats dont to the car?

 

i believe its coming from the exhaust only. When i start it i get a puff of whitish smoke on start up that smells like gas. Everyone that is around me when i start it say holy **** that thing is running rich lol. Smog pump is removed i think the cat may be gutted. And as far as i know there hasnt been any mods done.

 

do a tune up. the smoke may be oil my old motor did the same thing. do a compression test on all the cylinders and also are you buring oil
