TPI conversion. Question about that sensor under the plenum.

OK well I am almost done with my TPI conversion i just have a question about that sensor under the plenum. What Exactly is it? I've heard many different explanations. I am using an 89 ECM And PROM. the Harness is an 88. Do I need this sensor because I dont see a plug for it from my harness. where would it be?
I appreciate any help. thank you

IAT ;Inlet Air Temp sensor.
Some call it a MAT; Manifold Air Temp
Allows computer to adjust fueling based on inlet air temp changes
Has a short seperate harness that connects to a plug in the main harness back by dist ( same connectors ) which you are probably missing
