my 88 iroc with a 5.7 tpi is having troubles. it is throwing a code 36. can unhook the negative and runs great for the first drive and after i restart it the code is back, timing seems to go way off because it knocks and pings. checked for power at relay 12 volts, checked continuety in all wires, good. changed relay no change. started to dig a little deeper and with several different relays still no power at pin d on the maf connector, checked for ground from ecm to burn off relay and doesn't seem to be grounding. previos owner cut the ground wire and put it back together poorly, i cut it and soldered it back together with heat shrink around it. my question is there anything else that i can do to diagnose this problem or is it the ecm thats bad? can't realy find a good answer to this.

 

On my 87 TPI car I had about the same problems. Finally traced it to the ecm ground wire being loose on the back of the drivers side cylinder head. Tightened it up and problems solves.

Anyway..........just something for you to check.

 

thanks! i will try that tomorrow, i just installed a new negative batery cable today, old one very bad.

 

so i tried the computer ground, what a pita! cleaned it and then decided to go ahead and clean all other grounds that i could find. still no good. car still throws 36 and no power at terminal d? any other sugestions. is my ecm bad?
