305 tpi timing question

I have an 86 I-ROC 305 tpi I took my timing chain off yesterday and switched to gear drive the set I bought has an aluminum timing cover with the timing mark on the left side, my factory timing mark is about 12 0'clock my old chain had a little slop so I want to check my timing I am using a hypertech performance chip and i had my timing set at 12 degrees advanced. I ran the car after the job was done and took it for a ride and it ran great but it seemed to have a little hp loss, how can I check the timing? thanks for any advise

i dont know if you know this but you shouldnt use gear drives on a computer controlled engine that uses a knock sensor... the computer is probably sensing some virbation from the gears and is thinking its knock and is pulling timing..

Re: 305 tpi timing question

Your timing should be at 6 degrees BTDC. Also, remember those hypertech chips have a ton of advance in them. You will probably run better at 6 degrees or so.
