Re: Wire Identifier?

the black wires are most likely grounds and which side of the fire wall are the green wires coming from. your engine and head light harness are on the drivers side, passenger side is mainly for the a/c

Re: Wire Identifier?

top pic, large connector is for the 2nd coolant fan, goes on temp switch on pass side head. The heavy gauge black ground wire and relay are for that fan too. It's relay controlled, switching current loop is closed by grounding of the temp switch in the head.

Re: Wire Identifier?

The orange wire is clock memory. It not having power is why your clock resets every time you shut off the car. It is powered by the courtesy fuse. Is the fuse blown?

Also, having your fan powered by a switch is a good way to accidentally burn up your engine or your electric fan motor or both. The fan was designed to be thermally controlled using relays and thermal switches. Some were controlled by the ECM itself. These fans were not meant to run the entire time the engine is running nor do they cool very well when we forget to turn them on.

I would strongly suggest that you repair your factory fan control system rather than scrap it. Its a simple system and if you want to lower fan on temp, its as easy as swapping out the fan temp switch. Having your fan work as it was meant to will help prevent an accidental overheat.

Re: Wire Identifier?

From the photo it appears that you have an aftermarket stereo? The yellow battery+ wire should provide constant power to the unit. It powers the amp and also provides memory. Be sure that the yellow wire has constant 12v. The orange clock memory wire will not handle enough current for this pupose. You'll need to replace it with 16 gauge wire. Connect the 16 gauge wire where the orange wire attaches at the fuse panel, then connect it to the yellow wire. The red wire should have 12v with ign on.

The fan control system is fairly simple. It uses a temperature activated fan control switch that is installed in the passenger side head, between #6 & 8 spark plugs. This switch activates the fan relay, which in turn activates the fan. There are also a few aftermarket fan control systems available. They are all reasonably easy to install.

Re: Wire Identifier?

They are probably the wires that are intended for the fuel pump oil pressure safety switch. I would strogly suggest that you find a good wiring diagram for this car.

I could do more for you if i was at work where i have mitchell. Here at home i cant really help you.

Well in the process of my tpi to carb swap these wires were coming from down by the transmission. Are they tcc lockup and speedo? and for my speedo since its electric i assume since its a 86 i removed my computer but left the vss box can i make my speedometer work somehow still?

Re: Wire Identifier?

The Speedo doesn't need the ECM to work, but the ECM does need the speedo. Because you have no ECM it's a moot point.

I would think that with a twin turbo you'd need the dual fans, but if you're good with one, pluck the relay as well.
If your going to stick with manual operation the stock fan won't last, they're not designed to stay on more than a few minutes at a time.
I'd suggest aftermarket fan(s) designed for that type of service.
