My 350 HSR build

Hey guys, im doing a 350 HSR build, so far this is what i have planned.

xfi 280 (flat tappet version)
HSR (obviously )
patriot 190cc heads.

Iv already got long tube hooker comp headers, a fresh short block, and fairly new jasper 700r4. I do have a question about the heads. Iv chosen patriot 190cc heads because of the amazing price, but i also saw the 225cc heads for the exact same price. i know most people say 225cc is way to much for a 350ci, but i did some looking around and found that the 225cc patriots flow almost exactly what AFR's 195cc heads flow. infact worse at low lift. does this mean i woud be safe useing the 225's with my setup? or is there something im missing?

Oh yeah, i will be getting a higher stall converter to.

Safe; yes
Worthwhile; no

Do a Google search on intake port velocity; cfm is only one factor

Re: My 350 HSR build

Ahh, so the larger intake port doesnt provide enough velocity at lower rpm for optimal performance and idle? so if i ran this setup my power band would be way up there, like 3500+ rpm? Right now im looking at putting together something that will give me atleast 350rwhp. my dyno says my setup with the patriot 190cc heads will get me 426 crank. is that to optamistic? i know the AFR 195cc heads have ben proven but has anyone heard anything good about the patriots?

Engine building is all about putting together a package that works.225 heads fine BUT would need low gears/ hi stall so engine can get into working range sooner.
Select the wrong parts and you have a engine with little / no throttle response down low
Do a search ; most with street 383's are only running 195's

What does it say about the patriot head design that they need to go to a 225 port to get as much flow as much as a AFR 195?

If you can flow same cfm with smaller port then you have better bottom end response without flow limitations at the top end

I think its because the patriot 225cc's arrent CNC'd. if they were im sure they would flow much better. Im just looking for the best bang for the buck really. Im definately getting a higher stall converter, prolly around 2500 with my cam choice. and for gears, im not sure yet.
