Ported plenum question ?
Ok so I might be trading some parts I no longer need for a ported plenum . Before I trade , will it make a noticeable difference in performance with a set of stock smoothed and polished runners and the plenum that has been ported by Shear Performance (using a mill). I know if I wanted to see any real performance , aftermarket is the way to go . BUT keeping the car as stock looking as I can is more important to me right now.
So what do you guys think ? Will I get a noticeable difference with a ported/polished plenum and polished runners ? He said expect somewhere in the area of 7-12 HP gain . That sound about right ?
Thanks in advance guys for tolerating my ignorance in the TPI field . Im used to carbs and TBI . Was never "cool" enough to have TPI in the past

Re: Ported plenum question ?
Well, I believe that a mill would be a bit more accurate and give a cleaner cut to the plenum than the old cheap way of a dremel and sanding rolls. Shear Performance? Do you mean the one in IL or the one in WI? Stay away from the one in Wisconsin, that guy is a hack and he doesn't actually have a mill. The one in IL is still run by the same guy as 25 years ago and he does great work, but you will pay for it. I personally know the guys that run both Shear Performances, two different guys, two different qualities of work. The one in IL is a custom fabricator who builds race car chassis and suspensions, about as good as Bill Lucky, the other guy, well you could get better porting work going to your local Midas or Discount Tire, not to be mean..............
I believe that the TPIS insider hints book said that with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a ported plenum, you could see 12-18 horsepower, so I'd say 7-10 would be about right. Think about getting an airfoil if you haven't already, there are a ton of arguements of whether they work or not, but I strongly believe it cuts down on intake turbulence and gives better flow which gives better throttle response and gas mileage.
Out of curiousity, what parts were you thinking about trading? You wouldn't happen to be trading a set of sway bars, would you?

Re: Ported plenum question ?
Porting the plenum will do nothing but good things for you. I wouldn't put any money on gaining a large amount of horse power maybe 3-5 horse at the crank. But for what its worth its free horsepower. Just remember as your power levels increase the more the plenum will provide you with additional horse power. So if you decide to add an exhaust a cam and maybe some runners you should double your horsepower increase from the plenum.
I say if its free, DO IT!
