Help with Cam choice

I'm running a internally stock 305tpi/auto. I have a good exhaust and headers on it. Its been chipped. Stock converter with 3.73 gears. The car runs great, but I've been considering taking that peanut cam out and putting alittle more to it. I wish to retain the stock converter. What are my options? I've looked at quite a few different cams and I'm not really sure how far I can go. Yes its just a 305, I don't expect mind blowing power nor do I want it. I'm not swaping to a 350, this motor only has around 10k on it. Modified stock LT1 cam? LT4 Hotcam?

Re: Help with Cam choice

since your wanting to stay with the stock convertor id say the stock lt1 cam would be a good cheap option... lt4 hotcam is way to much for a 305 with a stock convertor the heads wont like anyhting past roughly a .470 lift you'll run into clearence issues with the valve guide after that. What ever you decide to do you will have to have a custom tune or it'll be a waste of time and money

ok... so how far out of wack would it be if i did use the LT1 stock cam(what are the specs of that cam) could I atleast install it and drive... I would plan on doing a custom tune, but I don't always have access to a trailer.

Re: Help with Cam choice

Do not exceed 220/220 duration @50. Do not exceed 470 lift either. You could always opt for a compu cam. Computer friendly ROLLER.

Re: Help with Cam choice

Check out this cam http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HRS-180225/ Probably the best price on a roller out there and it will work with your stock computer.

An AFPR would be a good investment, also.
