1987 350 TPI Rebuild?

Hi everyone, I just bought a 1987 Camaro Iroc and I thought it was in pretty good condition. I took it to Chevy delaership for some engine noise and they are telling me that the engine has top and bottom valve train noise. They recommend I buy a new engine... So my question is, since Im a total engine noob, can this motor be saved? I just want my engine in the same condition it was when it came off the assembly line. I dont think I NEED to buy a new engine, but I dont know for sure. I know it needs work, but... Well, does anyone have any suggestions where I can start? Can I send it off to get rebuilt somewhere? Any suggestions to put me on the right track are appreciated. Thanks!

Chris
