86 IROC won't run right unless I unplugged the timing connector

Hi, everyone, I'm having this problem with my IROC. When I start it, it barely has idle and if I give it gas, it just tries to cut out, like power is clicking on/off. Now if I unplug the timing wire, it runs fine. It has a great idle and every thing.

Stuff that has been replace recently are the ign module, plugs, wires, coil,

and after problem started

oil press switch, fuel pump and relay.

timing is set at factory spec.

Is it a bad ecm perhaps?

Also, if I unplug the MAF, the car won't stay on at all; but ff I unplug the IAC or egr solenoid, there is no change; only removing the timing connector has a positive effect.

no codes and the check engine light behaves normal. I just replaced the pick up coil to no avail, but I did notice something odd. If I unplug the connector from the alternator, the car idles perfectly and then dies 10 seconds later.

ok, new esc, same problem.

someone mentioned a bad ground so I will check that.

Also my cts' plastic is broken but the connector/pins still are attached. I was going to change it but the cts is seized in there and I haven't been able to remove it.

I'm not sure if these cars are set up like this but.......you mentioned the oil pressure switch.......does the ECU have to see oil pressure in order to give the ignition and/or injectors the "go" signal? Possibly a weak connection or bad sensor?

Have you put a timing light on it? Check it with the connector plugged and unplugged.

Pull the alternator and have it tested, there could be a short in it, a bad alt will cause all kinds of problems.
