two dead cylinders 88 350 TPI

Hi guys,

I have an 88 iroc that I swapped a 350 TPI into. Car will start and idle, but cylinder 5 & 6 are dead. Compression check is good on both. New plugs were installed during the swap. cap and rotor look good. Firing order is correct on the wires. injectors are getting 12 volts. I am looking for some advice on troubleshooting this problem.

Thanks.

What would be the best way to check that?

Pull the wires on the plugs and crank it over then pull the plugs and see if they are wet.

Re: two dead cylinders 88 350 TPI

I have some more info, see if this helps diagnose. Fuel pressure sits at 49 psi idle. I got it warmed up enough to go closed loop and store trouble codes. It stored a 34, map sensor signal low. I have a mass air car not speed density. Sorry, I see now that the code interchanges. Maf or map.

I had the same problem once. It turned out that the two injectors weren't firing.

You were right. New set of injectors from SouthBay and she is hitting on all eight.

Re: two dead cylinders 88 350 TPI

Ok, I hate to bug everyone. I had good results when I changed the injectors. So I decide to drive down the road and a mile or two down the road, right back to popping and stumbling. What can I check tomorrow? Fuel injectors are good. Compression is good. I do have a 305 esc on it even though it is a 350. 350 knock sensor. I just need some things to test to get me started.

Thanks

Re: two dead cylinders 88 350 TPI

Ok, just to update. The problem was my fault. Some dummy...(me) didn't secure the plug wires before the drive down the road. Three wires were almost burnt in two by the exhaust. Thanks for the help getting the engine back to life.
