Gotta love Vortec heads with TPI!
Here's an article from GM High-Tech Performance about the Scoggin Dickey TPI base manifold for use with Vortec heads. This is a nice simple build with great power/torque results! Anybody use this setup?

That looks like a setup I'd be interested in since i have a set of ported vortecs laying around taking up space. Where can I get one of these intakes?

The sad part is that is it still an upgrade over stock. But imagine how good is COULD BE, if the intake flowed as well as it could?

Yeah, 400 bucks is alot, but all the aftermarket TPI manifolds I've seen are at least that that price.

I'm either doing that or going LQ9. My L98 is in GREAT shape, so my $$$ is going towards other parts of the car right now.

Re: Gotta love Vortec heads with TPI!
I have the setup and am using 062 vortecs with bigger valves and mild port work. Its a strong car down low, but because of the restrictive runners in the manifold, It dies up top. I am selling the intake if anyone is interested. PM for pricing.. Sorry to hijack.
as far as the egr tube extender, I never used mine. Just blocked it off and had no issues.

I really don't know why all of you are screaming about how badly it flows. I was still pulling strongly at 6,000 rpm with the stock intake runners, in 1st, 2nd, and in 3rd when it hit the rev-limiter. 3.08s + 28.5" tall tires + 6,000 rpm with the TCC locked + aerodynamic brick means it was pulling well over 400 Hp and something around 140 MPH out of a G20 van.

Honestly the power he got out of that for the price of all the parts, even new, isnt bad comparativly to some of the other cars out there. I mean hell how many Nissans do you see with over 400 lb/ft of torque? Any of us could do this to our cars for less than $3 grand. And the thing about it is, $3 grand really isnt much if you save.
Sorry to rant. Im just saying the thirdgen crowd bitches about money like none other.

Yeah, I'm in college too. I was working minimum wage jobs but landed a $10 an hour job last week so I'm looking forward to that. If I made more money I think maybe I'd complain less.
But probably not.

Which is why I have carbed cars
But I've been looking into getting a TPI car, maybe I should just stick to what I have.

Re: Gotta love Vortec heads with TPI!
The article mentions that Vortec heads can "be had for $360 a pair". Was very interested in this intake (since I need new heads anyways) until I went on Summit and the cheapest heads I could find were $660 for a pair.
Have prices really doubled since these heads came out? That sucks, I was all excited about this intake/head combo since I had been quoted $600 just to rebuild my heads to anemic stock specs.

Check them out at Scoggin Dickey for a good price. And that article is 8 years old, so yeah....Prices have gone up.

Re: Gotta love Vortec heads with TPI!
I got mine off craigslist for $150 for a pair that were ported, polished, and decked. The deals are out there you just have to look around some.

Re: Gotta love Vortec heads with TPI!
I have trouble finding a good 350 out of anything around here.....I found one for 150 bucks a while ago, I should have bought it, then I should have just put all my 305 TPI stuff on it and went from there.

Re: Gotta love Vortec heads with TPI!
Look around for a 96 or so truck/suburban block, steel crank 4 bolt main roller cam. Not sure it has the good Vortecs on it though. Did a set of the 906s last yr the intake can be made to flow Ok but the exhaust with that seat was hard to pick up a decent # on
1 piece rear main seal though.
Easy to get spoiled...in a world of 300 cfm this and that, all of a sudden 240 or 250 seems to suck which it doesnt, you can still make plenty of power from that #.
1 piece rear main seal though.
I really don't know why all of you are screaming about how badly it flows
