3.1 to 5.0 swap

I did a search and couldn't find what I wanted in the forums, or in the tech articles.

I found a 305 TPI out of an 86 Iroc that I'm going to pick up here in a few weeks thats coming with the engine, pulleys, intake, wiring harness, computer, y-pipe, transmission and I'm assuming the sensors and injectors as well for $800. The stuff has 76K miles on it, so its got lower miles than the 3.1L I have now that has 93K and well I'm tired of not having any power, and tired of putting money into a V6 when I could just do this.

So, I have pretty much everything I need to do this as far as the drivetrain goes. Its going to be going in with my stock rear end, with 3.23 open gears, and its going to stay an auto. Eventually I'll make it a posi, but thats probably not in the initial build budget.

I have all the shifting linkages to hook up the new 700R4, I have the shifter plate for the console, I have the rest of the exhaust past the y-pipe. I told the guy I didn't want the exhaust manifolds off of it because I want to get headers for it anyways so I'll have that. I have the computer and the harness to run it, and I have the engine block, heads, intake, don't know about the injectors, or the sensors, but I'm assuming that if the engine is whole that the injectors will be in place, and the sensors will still be where they should be.

What I know I need to get, is a beefed up front suspension to hold the extra weight of the V8 vs the V6, so that means springs, and shocks, and I need new shocks anyways. I'll need engine mounts, but thats no big deal. And I'm probably going to need a new fuel pump so I don't run the V8 lean with a V6 pump, I'm assuming.

I can either get a new dash, one for a V8, or get a new tach so it will read correctly, and the one in it now doesn't read right anyways so no big deal to fix.

Is there anything that I'm missing? The car is a 90 RS.

I'm guessing that the fuel lines will hook up the same, as well as the brake booster, and vacuum lines. I've never done an engine swap except for changing out an engine of the same type as original, so any and all help would be appreciated.

I'm going to get the engine and transmission in a week or so, and I'm slowly going to get the rest of the parts as I go. I'm thinking this is going to be a spring project so I can have it ready for the summer. Thanks for the help guys. Glad to join the TPI crowd!!

i think you covered most of it...the metal fuel lines from the v6 are diffrent those will have to be swapped.

brake booster is fine, the vacuum lines will be different

Yeah, the more I thought about the vacuum lines the more I knew they would be different. And how much of the fuel lines are we talking about here? All of them? or can I only replace the ones that are closer to the engine? I'll have to drop the fuel tank anyways to put in a new fuel pump but if I could save a few bucks keeping some of the fuel lines that would be great, but I don't think I'll be so lucky...

Re: 3.1 to 5.0 swap

the fuel pumps are the same part number depending on where you look

just the metal lines at the engine that connect to the rubber lines

Re: 3.1 to 5.0 swap

Are you saying my V6 fuel pump will adequately fuel a V8?

And alright, good, thats a boat load of money right there, my fuel lines under the car are good, so it would be a shame to replace them.

Re: 3.1 to 5.0 swap

What parts can I carry over from the V6? If anything...and I mean as to avoid buying parts that I already have that would work on the V8
