But you'll be missing out on a bunch of power that could be had with a matching intake.
You can run it with a TPI style system as long as its all hogged out and upgraded.
A LT4 hot-cam would probably run great with a FIRST LTR setup.

How well would the lt1 intake work? and how high do you think it will pull w/ the stock intake

My stock head/cam/intake LT1 makes max power around 5k with all boltons. It's a b-body lt1, smaller cam than F and Y cars.

Re: lt4 hot cam with stock intake?
I used the LT4 Hot cam in my build, with TPI. I have fully siamesed SLP Runners 2.5 inches in siamesed in my stock base with the base ported to a 1205 Gasket. My heads are ported Iron Eagles. Here is the thread on the build.

I made 290/358 @ the wheels. The power under the curve is amazing. I absolutely love the combo.

Your combo is well matched, you've upgraded everything. TPI's weakness is the poor flowing heads and poor flowing stock intake. Without upgrading both of those a cam swap will leave alot of potential on the table.
3.8 TransAm did car he called "Thor". Thor was making some serious power and trapping very nicely. It was a vortec headed, ported TPI setup with a LT4 hot-cam.
The original poster's proposal of just doing the hot-cam and on a stock intake will produce very little gain and cause a whole bunch of problems.

I agree with what you are saying. Anytime you change cams you must do the supporting mods or its a complete waste of time
